About the position

The Community Support Specialist (CSS) position at Thresholds involves providing mental health and substance use treatment support to individuals who are deaf or hard of hearing. This role is integral to the unique Thresholds Deaf Program, which is the first of its kind in Illinois, offering comprehensive community-based services. The CSS will engage in care planning, case management, and assist clients in navigating complex systems to enhance their recovery journey. The position emphasizes collaboration, professional development, and the use of American Sign Language (ASL) to meet the cultural needs of the Deaf community.

Responsibilities

• Provide mental health and substance use treatment support to clients in the Deaf community.
• Engage in care planning to support client growth and recovery.
• Assist clients in navigating complex systems and connecting them with resources.
• Strengthen clients' daily living skills by providing transportation to appointments and other necessary locations.
• Adapt to clients' schedules, needs, and treatment plans on a daily basis.

Requirements

• Fluency in American Sign Language (ASL).
• Passion for mental health advocacy and the Deaf community.
• Effective communication and relationship-building skills.
• Good writing skills.
• Strong time management and organizational skills.
• Must be at least 21 years old.
• Valid driver's license, current car insurance, and daily access to a car.

Nice-to-haves

• High school diploma or GED certificate.
• Bachelor's or Master's degree in Psychology, Social Work, or a related field preferred.
