About the position
The ASL Educational Interpreter at Tucson Unified School District (TUSD) is responsible for providing interpretation services to facilitate communication between English-speaking staff and students who are deaf or hard of hearing. This part-time role requires expertise in American Sign Language and a commitment to supporting students' educational experiences through effective communication.
Responsibilities
- Translate verbal or written communications from English to American Sign Language and vice versa.
- Facilitate communication during classroom activities and meetings.
- Assist in the interpretation of educational materials for students who are deaf or hard of hearing.
- Demonstrate expertise and competency in interpreting and translating in various contexts.
Requirements
- Three years of experience in an Interpreter/Translator capacity.
- Bilingual proficiency in English and American Sign Language.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills in English.
- Ability to read and comprehend written/graphic and oral instructions.
- Current Driver's license and personal vehicle insurance coverage.
Nice-to-haves
- Experience working with children in an educational setting.
- Knowledge of educational terminology in both English and American Sign Language.
