About the position

The ASL Interpreter position at Southern California Alcohol and Drug Programs, Inc. (SCADP) is designed to provide essential communication support for deaf and hard of hearing clients within the Increased Access Program. The role involves collaborating with staff to ensure effective delivery of services and training non-hearing-impaired staff in basic American Sign Language (ASL). This position is crucial for facilitating case management and counseling services, ensuring that all clients receive the necessary support in a manner that is accessible to them.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in the delivery of case management and counseling services to hard of hearing clients by ensuring proper communication.
  • Assist in the day-to-day functioning of the program in routine interactions with hard of hearing clients.
  • Train non-hearing-impaired staff in basic American Sign Language to improve their ability to provide service to hearing impaired clients.
  • Interpret for hearing impaired clients at appointments with outside organizations as needed.
  • Perform other tasks as may be required by the Program Coordinator.

Requirements

  • Certified American Sign Language Interpreter
  • Minimum 1 year of sobriety if recovering
  • Ability to pass a fingerprint clearance and background check, including criminal history, personal references, employment and education verifications.
