About the position

Asphalt Paving Laborer at APAC Mississippi, Inc., a CRH company, involves working in a team environment to safely and efficiently operate heavy equipment used in road, site, or highway construction and paving. The selected candidate will be responsible for maintaining a safe work environment for themselves and their co-workers, adhering to all company policies and OSHA/MSHA regulations. The role requires constant communication with co-workers, especially when backing up equipment, using hand signals or other movements to ensure safety. The operator will follow the directions of the Foreman regarding daily tasks and expectations for each specific project or job site. In addition to operating heavy machinery, the laborer will perform minor servicing and maintenance of equipment, documenting daily pre-and-post inspections in compliance with company policies. The role also includes assisting in training less-experienced employees on proper operations, servicing, and repair of equipment. General labor duties may be required as needed, and the laborer will perform other duties as assigned by the management. Candidates must be prepared to work outdoors in extreme temperatures, both hot and cold, and be willing to travel and work away from home when required. The position may also require working nights and weekends, as well as overtime when necessary. The ideal candidate will have a professional and courteous attitude towards co-workers, supervisors, and the general public, and must be at least 18 years of age due to the nature of the working environment.

Responsibilities

  • Safely and efficiently operate heavy equipment used in road, site, or highway construction and paving.
  • Maintain a safe work environment for themselves and co-workers.
  • Report any problems to the manager.
  • Maintain constant eye contact with co-workers when backing up equipment, using hand signals or other movements for communication.
  • Follow all company policies and OSHA/MSHA regulations for safe working procedures and environment.
  • Follow directions of the Foreman regarding daily tasks and expectations for each specific project or job site.
  • Perform minor servicing and maintenance of equipment; refer major problems to the Foreman.
  • Perform daily pre-and-post inspections with appropriate documentation in compliance with company policies.
  • Assist in training less-experienced employees on the proper operations, servicing, and repair of equipment.
  • Perform general labor duties when necessary.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Minimum high school diploma or general education degree (GED) required.
  • Previous related experience in the construction field and/or training is preferred.
  • Ability to pass pre-employment drug screen and criminal background check.
  • Ability to pass a pre-employment 'Fit for Work' physical.
  • Ability to provide valid documentation for the I-9 Immigration document.
  • Display a professional and courteous attitude to co-workers, supervisors, and the general public at all times.
  • Willingness to travel and work away from home when required.
  • Willingness to work nights and weekends when necessary.
  • Ability to report to work at the designated start time.
  • Ability to work overtime when required.
  • Willingness to work outdoors in extreme temperatures, both hot and cold.
  • Strict adherence to safety requirements and procedures as outlined in the Employee Handbook.
  • Willingness to work in a team environment and assist co-workers or supervisors with other duties as required.
  • Ability to wear personal protective equipment (PPE) in designated operations and production areas as stated by OSHA and/or MSHA.
