About the position

The position involves planning, directing, and coordinating the activities of asphalt paving crews and projects. The role requires overseeing project organization, scheduling, budgeting, and implementation while ensuring compliance with safety and regulatory standards. The individual will work closely with various stakeholders to manage personnel, equipment, and subcontractor activities, ensuring project efficiency and quality control.

Responsibilities

  • Plan, direct, and coordinate activities of asphalt paving crews and projects.
  • Maintain daily control of projects through direct reports or personal involvement.
  • Ensure compliance with Federal/State/Local regulations.
  • Interview, hire, train, coach, and evaluate employees in collaboration with management.
  • Complete required internal reporting accurately and timely.
  • Read and comprehend project specifications and DOT specifications.
  • Assist in tracking project costs and maintaining a positive workforce.
  • Maintain relationships with subcontractors, general contractors, and customer representatives.
  • Prepare timecards, equipment hours, production reports, and purchase orders accurately.
  • Communicate daily with stakeholders regarding project status.
  • Monitor project production rates and costs through internal reports.
  • Optimize project efficiencies in transportation, materials, and productivity rates.
  • Resolve employee and subcontractor/vendor performance issues.
  • Ensure projects meet or exceed QC/QA goals.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED required; Bachelor's degree preferred.
  • 1-2 years of related experience or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Strong background in leadership, management, and paving construction preferred.
  • Ability to read and interpret safety rules and procedure manuals.
  • Ability to perform under deadline pressure and cope well in stressful environments.
  • Demonstrated ability to train, motivate, and lead employees.
  • Basic knowledge of labor and employment laws.
  • Proficient in Word, Excel, and Outlook.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in heavy highway construction or asphalt paving.
  • Knowledge of safety and environmental regulations.
