About the position

The Asphalt Plant Operator at Helena Sand & Gravel, Inc. is responsible for coordinating all aspects of asphalt production, ensuring the efficient operation of the hot plant, and maintaining safety and quality standards. Responsibilities

• Operate the hot plant to fulfill daily/job orders and manage order scheduling.
• Maintain accurate time and materials records.
• Perform maintenance activities including welding, torching, and machine lubrication.
• Operate equipment such as front end loaders and skid steers safely to support hot plant activities.
• Maintain the appearance and cleanliness of the hot plant and surrounding area.
• Participate in creating a safe work environment and comply with safety standards.
• Reflect a professional appearance and attitude in all work-related activities.
• Ensure timely production of asphalt and verify specified asphalt mix.
• Coordinate production and loading of asphalt leaving the plant.
• Communicate effectively with dispatch, drivers, operators, and customers.
• Service and grease plant parts and maintain cleanliness of the plant.
• Order and maintain inventory of plant parts and materials.
• Direct operations of loader operators and assist other workforce members as needed.
• Promptly communicate any material flaws to supervisors.
• Take action to avoid potential hazards or obstructions.
• Participate in and promote an inclusive work environment.

Requirements

• Ability to operate hot plant machinery and equipment safely.
• Basic mechanical skills for maintenance tasks.
• Strong communication skills for effective coordination with team members and customers.
• Commitment to safety and compliance with OSHA/MSHA standards.

Nice-to-haves

• Experience in asphalt production or related field.
• Familiarity with heavy machinery operation.
