About the position

The Asphalt QC Roadway Technician is responsible for conducting tests on Hot Mix Asphalt and component materials to ensure compliance with applicable specifications. This role involves assisting in mixture adjustments and laydown operations, as well as performing various testing duties related to roadway construction. The position requires current FDOT Roadway Levels I and II certification and emphasizes a strong safety culture within the organization.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct tests on Hot Mix Asphalt and component materials to determine compliance with specifications.
  • Assist in mixture adjustment and laydown operations to ensure specification compliance.
  • Perform aggregate testing and HMA production testing, including sampling and aggregate gradation.
  • Conduct roadway construction testing, including temperature, layer thickness, and compacted in-place density.
  • Maintain a test result database and input data accurately.
  • Drive a pickup truck or passenger vehicle as required.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED equivalent.
  • Current FDOT Roadway Level I and II certification.
  • Ability to understand and carry out instructions in written, oral, or diagram form.
  • Knowledge of mathematical skills including addition, subtraction, division, multiplication, percentages, and weights.
  • Ability to read and comprehend technical manuals.
  • Proficiency in reading and using measuring devices.
  • Ability to lift and move up to 50 pounds.
  • Valid driver's license for the territory of operation.

Nice-to-haves

  • Current Asphalt Roadway Level I, II, and III certification.
  • College engineering degree or technical school diploma.
  • 1-2 years of experience in the heavy highway or paving industry.
