About the position

The Quality Control Manager at N.B. West Contracting Co. is responsible for overseeing the quality control processes for asphalt production and paving projects. This role involves managing quality control at various asphalt plants and on-site projects, ensuring compliance with industry standards and customer expectations. The position requires a hands-on approach to testing, analyzing, and improving asphalt mix designs while guiding plant staff in implementing best practices. The QC Manager also plays a crucial role in optimizing production and enhancing material performance, supporting the company's commitment to quality and safety.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct and manage daily quality control tests to ensure compliance with project specifications.
  • Supervise lab certifications on asphalt products, following strict scientific protocols.
  • Collaborate with stakeholders to ensure mix design accuracy and timely delivery.
  • Coordinate with plant and paving teams to optimize mix designs and ensure quality of raw materials.
  • Develop and manage the budget for the Quality Control Department.
  • Develop new ideas to reduce the use of natural resources and optimize energy usage.
  • Lead, motivate, and develop the QC team, fostering a cooperative environment.
  • Resolve conflicts and address job-related disputes diplomatically.
  • Manage time, tasks, and resources efficiently across multiple operations.
  • Enforce West's Safety Program and ensure compliance with safety protocols.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in civil engineering or a related field with 6+ years of hands-on experience in Superpave asphalt testing.
  • 10+ years of hands-on experience in managing Superpave asphalt testing may substitute for degree requirement.
  • Missouri Department of Transportation certifications including Superpave QC/QA, HMA Aggregate, and others.
  • Ability to quickly make changes to asphalt plant settings to maintain compliance.
  • Extensive knowledge of Missouri Department of Transportation specifications for asphalt production.
  • Proven experience supervising personnel in a quality control or construction materials testing environment.
  • Flexibility to accommodate varied work schedules including nights and weekends.
  • Strong team orientation and experience working closely with plant operators and partners.
