The Asphalt Superintendent is responsible to safely supervise and coordinate activities pertaining to specific projects.
Responsibilities
- Communicate gravel/base crew needs with dispatch
- Communicate needs with plant
- Work with crews, inspectors, and subcontractors to complete projects
- Complete quality gravel/base jobs within specifications
- Coach employees
- Communicate needed information to employees
- Complete necessary paperwork
- Deliver samples to lab
- Approve and submit work hours for crew and pertinent job information daily
- Calculate number of trucks required to haul aggregate and/or asphalt according to capacity of vehicles, traffic conditions, distance from work site and productivity of drivers
- Tour work site to ascertain progress in meeting time schedules and to detect insufficient utilization of workers and equipment
- Measure slope and thickness of paving to verify compliance with contract
- Measure distances from reference points to locate boundaries of construction site
- Direct work crews engaged in operation of vehicles and machines
- Verify slope of graded surfaces using appropriate instruments
Requirements
- Ability to identify and correct any unsafe conditions and keep equipment properly maintained
- Safely and properly supervise and coordinate teams and tasks pertaining to projects
- Communicate effectively (verbal, listening, written) in all situations
- Self-motivated, team-player with good interpersonal skills; ability to maintain positive customer and employee relations and act courteous/respectful of others
- Troubleshoot and problem solve situations/problems (material quality, equipment operation/repair, etc.)
- Monitor and discuss production issues with co-workers and managers/supervisors
- Ensure regulation compliance as per Duininck, Inc. standards
- Effectively communicate and coordinate with QC/QA/QM personnel
- Understand and adhere to all safety regulations
- Understand and adhere to the Personal Protection Equipment requirements
- Understand and adhere to Company policies, including the Duininck Standards of Conduct
Nice-to-haves
- Maintain current regulatory certifications required for the position
- Commercial Driver's License preferred
