About the position

The Assay Technician position at AWG, Inc. involves conducting assay analyses of production materials with a focus on accuracy and efficiency. The role requires collaboration with supervisors and operators, as well as the ability to multitask and meet deadlines in a fast-paced laboratory environment. The technician will be responsible for reporting assay results and maintaining laboratory equipment and supplies.

Responsibilities

  • Correlate daily sample requirements with supervisor and melt-room operator.
  • Record lot numbers, dates, times, sample information, etc.
  • Visually check sample condition for contamination and irregularities.
  • Determine required elements for analysis and appropriate methods.
  • Perform calibration checks of balances and weigh samples.
  • Analyze samples using accepted lab procedures and in-house QC check samples.
  • Report timely and accurate assay results to Manufacturing Manager and management.
  • Perform troubleshooting and maintenance of analytical equipment.
  • Calculate concentration of each required element and convert to standard reporting.
  • Follow sample plans for incoming shipments of silver, gold, or platinum material.
  • Maintain lab reports and supplies current.
  • Work weekends, rotating schedules, and overtime as needed.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • Minimum of 2 years of lab experience.
  • Basic math and chemistry skills at a high school level.
  • Good computer skills including word processing, spreadsheets, and database software.
  • Ability to work independently and in a team environment.

Nice-to-haves

  • Chemistry experience preferred.
  • Familiarity with acids, bases, and lab chemicals.
  • Experience using drill press and lathe to prepare samples.
