About the position

The Assay Technician is responsible for conducting assay analyses of production materials with precision and efficiency. This role requires a strong understanding of laboratory procedures, the ability to multitask, and effective communication skills to report findings to management. The technician will work in a fast-paced environment, ensuring accurate results while adhering to safety protocols and maintaining equipment.

Responsibilities

• Correlate daily sample requirements with supervisor and melt-room operator.
• Record lot numbers, dates, times, and sample information.
• Visually check sample condition for contamination and irregularities.
• Determine required elements for analysis and appropriate methods.
• Perform calibration checks of balances and weigh samples.
• Analyze samples using accepted lab procedures and in-house QC checks.
• Report assay results to Manufacturing Manager and management in a timely manner.
• Perform troubleshooting and maintenance of analytical equipment.
• Calculate concentration of elements and convert to standard reporting.
• Follow sample plans for incoming shipments of silver, gold, or platinum material.
• Work weekends, rotating schedules, and overtime as needed.

Requirements

• High School Diploma or GED.
• Minimum of 2 years of lab experience.
• Basic math and chemistry skills at a high school level.
• Ability to read, write, and communicate effectively.
• Good computer skills including word processing, spreadsheets, and database software.
• Familiarity with acids, bases, and lab chemicals.

Nice-to-haves

• Chemistry experience preferred.
• Experience with drill press and lathe for sample preparation.
