About the position

The Assembler Programmer at VEAH Consulting Services is responsible for writing, testing, and maintaining high-quality assembler code for mainframe applications. This role requires proficiency in IBM Assembler Language and involves optimizing code for performance, debugging, and collaborating with other developers and project managers to meet functional and performance requirements. The position emphasizes problem-solving skills and adherence to organizational standards for security and maintainability.

Responsibilities

• Write, test, and maintain high-quality assembler code for mainframe applications.
• Optimize assembler code for better performance and convert it to other mainframe languages like COBOL and PL/1.
• Use debugging tools effectively, such as IBM Debug Tool, to troubleshoot and debug assembler programs.
• Create and manage JCL scripts for job submissions, data processing, and system operations.
• Ensure code complies with organizational standards and best practices for security, performance, and maintainability.
• Develop, test, and maintain assembler language programs while understanding computer architecture and memory management.
• Collaborate with other developers, system analysts, and project managers to understand requirements and participate in code reviews.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or related field.
• 7 years of experience in Assembler programming.
• 5 years of experience in COBOL programming.
• 11+ years of experience with databases and data management systems, specifically DB2.
• 8 years of experience in Assembly and C++ programming.
• Strong debugging skills with at least 10 years of experience in debugging.
• Proficiency in JCL for job submission and file handling in mainframe environments.
• Familiarity with IBM z/OS and related environments.

Nice-to-haves

• Knowledge of low-level languages such as C or C++ is a plus.
