About the position

The Assembly Packer position at Crayola is a critical role within the supply chain and operations team, specifically designed to ensure that packing and assembling requirements are met in accordance with the production schedule. This position is located in Bethlehem, PA, and operates on the 3rd shift. The Assembly Packer will work under the direct supervision of a Team Manager and is responsible for performing various duties associated with the assigned team, focusing on the facility's goals, objectives, and priorities. Employees in this role must be adaptable, capable of moving between departments within the plant on short notice, and between plants with a 48-hour notice. In this role, the Assembly Packer will perform manual and semi-manual packing duties, independently make basic machine adjustments, and gather necessary materials for production. Responsibilities include relieving minor jams, feeding, counting, stacking, and replenishing various packaging materials, finished stock, and work in process. The Assembly Packer must follow standard work methods and standard operating procedures (SOPs) to ensure production efficiency and safety. Continuous quality inspection is essential, and any non-standard items must be removed before completing operations. Accurate record-keeping on production and materials used is also a key responsibility. The position requires the ability to perform job duties of other classifications, such as operator, material handler, or processor, as needed. Teamwork is emphasized, and the Assembly Packer will participate in team problem-solving initiatives aimed at continuous improvement. Maintaining a clean and orderly work area in accordance with 5S/5M standards is expected, along with compliance with inventory control procedures using the Warehouse Management System. Training temporary workforce members in daily operations may also be required. Additionally, adherence to federal and state hazardous waste regulations is crucial, including proper handling and familiarity with emergency procedures in case of spills or leaks. The Assembly Packer will also engage in team development and continuous improvement initiatives by attending meetings and providing input.

Responsibilities

  • Follow standard operating procedures for inventory control and accuracy.
  • Train temporary workforce in daily operations as required.
  • Comply with federal and state hazardous waste regulations.
  • Actively participate in team development and continuous improvement initiatives.

Requirements

  • High School diploma or GED preferred.
  • 1-2 years of experience in manufacturing, warehousing, or similar repetitive assembly experience preferred.
  • Ability to perform all physical requirements of the job.
  • Must be able to become forklift certified (standup and sit down lifts).
  • Competent in basic math skills including addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, percentages, and fractions.
  • Good command of the English language, both written and verbal.
  • Basic computer literacy.
  • Ability to work alone with minimum supervision.
