About the position

The City of Portland's Assessor's Office is seeking an Assessing/GIS Intern to assist with municipal applications of GIS. This internship provides an opportunity to engage in technical GIS and mapping work, focusing on property ownership discovery and analysis projects using the City's parcel layer.

Responsibilities

  • Assist with various technical GIS and mapping work in the discovery of ownership of certain properties identified as 'Unknown'.
  • Conduct deed research and survey interpretation.
  • Engage in various analysis projects using the City parcel layer.

Requirements

  • Enrollment in a two or four year degree or certificate program in engineering, environmental sciences, geography, GIS or natural resources.
  • GPA of 3.0 or higher.
  • Ability to work carefully and with attention to detail.
  • Ability to work independently and with supervision.
  • Willingness to understand the mission of the Assessing Office.
  • Ability to adapt to on-the-fly changes in project or research requests.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with Microsoft Excel and data entry.
  • Experience with Google Workspace office productivity applications.
  • Proficiency with ArcMap and ArcPro.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Excellent computer skills.

Benefits

  • Rate of Pay: $18.50-$20.00 per hour for 20-24 hours per week.
