The Admissions Counselor at Coral Shores Behavioral Health plays a crucial role in the initial assessment and admission process for potential patients. This position involves conducting telephonic and in-person risk assessments, coordinating referrals, and ensuring effective communication with patients, families, and referral sources. The Admissions Counselor is responsible for verifying insurance benefits, scheduling assessments, and making clinical recommendations based on the needs of individuals seeking care. This role is essential in providing high-quality, individualized care in a supportive environment.

Responsibilities

  • Provide telephonic and in-person risk assessments to assist in identifying appropriate levels of care for potential patients.
  • Coordinate the referral and intake process, facilitating the admission process and maintaining communication with referral sources, families, and unit staff.
  • Verify and obtain prior authorization of insurance benefits as needed.
  • Conduct telephonic risk screenings to assess suicidality/homicidality in callers in crisis.
  • Schedule assessments with potential patients and referral sources, explaining the assessment/admission process.
  • Greet patients and families upon arrival, informing them of the evaluation and admission process.
  • Conduct walk-in and scheduled assessments, coordinating with the reviewing psychiatrist to make clinical recommendations.
  • Identify potential problematic disposition cases and seek supervision prior to acceptance.
  • Accurately enter information into the electronic medical records system and review all admission paperwork with patients.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of voluntary admission and involuntary procedures for court commitment.
  • Coordinate emergency medical or psychiatric care if a patient is medically compromised.
  • Complete referrals and Crisis Safety Plans for patients being referred out.
  • Document interactions in a clear, concise, and timely manner, utilizing appropriate terminology.
  • Exhibit excellent customer relations skills in communication with all contacts.
  • Promote a safe work environment by complying with safety and infection control guidelines.
  • Participate in staff meetings, hospital committees, and program development initiatives.

Requirements

  • Master's degree in Counseling, Psychology, Social Work, or a Human Services field, or valid Florida licensed RN.
  • 3-5 years of experience in a behavioral health setting.
  • Valid BLS certification.
