About the position

The Asset Accountant at the University of Texas at Tyler is responsible for maintaining and coordinating inventory and property records, ensuring compliance with regulations, and contributing to the financial integrity of asset management. This role involves collaboration with various departments to manage capital assets, prepare financial reports, and conduct audits, ultimately supporting the university's financial reporting and asset control processes.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain accurate information in the inventory and property management database.
  • Review inventory records for compliance with federal, state, and University guidelines.
  • Prepare reports in compliance with regulations.
  • Coordinate the annual physical inventory and maintain the physical calendar.
  • Schedule and perform audits on departmental inventories.
  • Review purchasing approvals and purchases in PeopleSoft Asset Management Module.
  • Maintain the property transfer workflow system in PeopleSoft.
  • Ensure data integrity between accounting system asset records and asset management software.
  • Prepare inventory reports for yearly review.
  • Conduct on-site reviews for high-risk departments on campus.
  • Coordinate the assignment of inventory tags to new and existing equipment.
  • Participate in software program testing and assist with writing procedure documentation.
  • Provide campus training on inventory and property management roles and responsibilities.
  • Manage capital equipment and construction planning reports in consultation with leadership.
  • Prepare and maintain financial schedules for annual reporting and auditors.
  • Analyze data and prepare monthly and annual journal entries related to property, plant, and equipment.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in business, accounting, inventory/logistics management, or a related field from an accredited institution.
  • Three (3) years of related experience in inventory/property management or a related area.

Nice-to-haves

  • Two (2) years of accounting, business, and/or inventory experience.
  • Experience using PeopleSoft and asset management/inventory software applications.
