Fairfax County's Wastewater Collection Division (WCD) is seeking a highly motivated Asset Management Specialist to join its Asset Management Group. This division is responsible for managing and operating a vast wastewater collection system that includes nearly 3,400 miles of pipe, over 100,000 associated structures, 57 metering sites, and 63 pumping stations. The successful candidate will work under the general supervision of the asset manager and will be tasked with providing project and maintenance support for wastewater collection, performing project management, and overseeing contract negotiation and administration for the inspection, maintenance, and repair of critical wastewater infrastructure such as gravity sewers, manholes, and pumping stations. In this role, the Asset Management Specialist will manage projects aimed at collecting sewer asset condition data, maintaining asset inventory, and managing operational and maintenance data that will be utilized for data visualization tools and project decision-making. The position also involves leading asset risk assessments and modeling to develop programs and projects for planning and maintenance functions. Additionally, the role requires preparing and coordinating project budgets and schedules, coordinating project activities with various groups including county agencies and residents, and conducting meetings and presentations to educate stakeholders and gain their support. This position offers a unique opportunity to play a key role in the lifecycle of projects and the lifecycle of WCD's assets as an owner of the utility. The Asset Management Group provides engineering and asset management support for the operation of a large collection system, allowing the candidate to broaden their skill set and gain a deeper understanding of asset management, capital planning, operations and maintenance, and overall utility system management.
