About the position

The Asset Management Technician position within the Roads and Drainage Division of Polk County involves field inspection and data collection of roadway and drainage assets. The role requires the use of technical inspection equipment and GIS mapping software to maintain and update asset information. The technician will work primarily outdoors, ensuring the safety and functionality of county-owned infrastructure while interacting with the public and county staff.

Responsibilities

• Perform field inspections and data collection of roadway and drainage assets.
• Drive motor vehicles while collecting data and operating field computers and mobile GIS equipment.
• Utilize technical inspection equipment such as line locators and Ground Penetrating Radar (GPR).
• Process and prepare data using ESRI ArcGIS software.
• Digitize features using GIS software tools and techniques.
• Research information from various sources to assist in asset data collection.
• Maintain current knowledge of GIS standards and asset inspection methods.
• Interact professionally with the public and county staff.

Requirements

• High school diploma or GED required; higher education in civil engineering or GIS preferred.
• Minimum of 2 years of experience in asset management or related fields.
• Experience using GPS receivers and GIS collectors such as ArcPad or ESRI Collector.
• Ability to read and interpret construction plans.
• Valid driver's license and ability to secure a Florida driver's license.

Nice-to-haves

• One year of experience using ArcGIS Desktop or ArcGIS Pro software.
• Active FAA Part 107 Remote Pilot Certification.
• Previous experience with UAS and LiDAR sensors.
• F.D.O.T. Intermediate M.O.T. Certification.
• Qualified Storm Water Inspector certification.
