About the position

The Asset Manager - Special Servicing position at KeyBank National Association is a critical role responsible for managing and disposing of an assigned portfolio that may include both performing and non-performing loans as well as real estate owned (REO) properties. The primary objective of this role is to maximize the goals and objectives associated with the portfolio, ensuring effective asset management strategies are developed and implemented. The Asset Manager will be tasked with creating business plans and preparing cases within the assigned timeframes, which is essential for maintaining the integrity and performance of the portfolio. In this role, the Asset Manager will engage in correspondence and negotiations with borrowers, guarantors, and their representatives, ensuring that all communications are handled professionally and effectively. The position also requires the completion of various internal and external reports related to portfolio management, as well as maintaining accurate records and files within the system of record. Monitoring the performance of third-party vendors and subcontractors is another key responsibility, ensuring that all external parties are meeting their obligations and contributing positively to the portfolio's performance. Additionally, the Asset Manager will assist in preparing financial analyses that inform various management and disposition strategies. This may involve travel to meet with borrowers, guarantors, property managers, brokers, attorneys, and site inspectors, which is essential for maintaining strong relationships and ensuring the successful management of the portfolio. The role may also include oversight and training of less experienced staff members in sound collection and workout practices, contributing to the overall development of the team.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement an approved asset management strategy for assigned portfolio, including business plans and case preparation within portfolio assigned timeframes.
  • Correspondence and negotiations with borrowers, guarantors and/or their representatives.
  • Completion of various internal and external reports for portfolio management.
  • Maintain the portfolio records and files, including the system of record.
  • Monitor the performance of third-party vendors and subcontractors.
  • Assist in the preparation of financial analysis for various management and disposition strategies.
  • Travel as required to meet with borrowers, guarantors, property managers, brokers, attorneys and site inspectors.
  • Review asset files of the portfolio as necessary to obtain pertinent asset information.
  • Assist in the oversight with training of less experienced staff members in sound collection and workout practices.

Requirements

  • Possess a college degree or equivalent job-related experience.
  • Possess computer literacy including good working knowledge of Excel, Word, and Access software programs.
  • Possess at least five (5) years relevant experience in real estate law and/or financial services.
  • Well-developed written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to manage and prioritize multiple tasks in a high-volume environment.

Nice-to-haves

  • Knowledge of bank, conventional, agency, and/or commercial mortgage-backed securities origination and servicing is recommended.
