About the position
The Asset Protection / Loss Prevention Detective is responsible for safeguarding company property by detecting and preventing theft. This role involves training and supervising staff, implementing theft prevention programs, responding to incidents, and conducting investigations. The detective will also maintain compliance with legal standards and company policies, prepare reports, and collaborate with law enforcement.
Responsibilities
- Select, train, develop, and supervise Asset Protection / Loss Prevention staff.
- Develop, implement, and communicate programs to prevent theft among customers and employees.
- Participate in initial orientation and ongoing training on computer, surveillance, and alarm systems.
- Respond to customer and associate incidents to facilitate first aid and minimize company liability.
- Recover stolen merchandise and apprehend shoplifters committing fraud or other criminal acts.
- Investigate criminal violations against customers or associates on company premises.
- Prepare prompt and complete reports on theft incidents, merchandise recoveries, accident investigations, and audits.
- Maintain strict compliance with laws and company policies regarding apprehensions, searches, and evidence preservation.
- Conduct and oversee audits to ensure compliance with merchandise exposure standards.
- Develop and maintain relationships with local law enforcement for coordination on criminal cases.
- Testify in court regarding cases involving the company.
- Respond to alarm conditions at assigned store.
- Perform other duties as needed.
Requirements
- High School Diploma or equivalent required.
- 1-2 years related experience.
- Strong interpersonal skills with proven ability to communicate with diverse groups.
- Resourceful and able to adapt quickly to changing priorities.
- Ability to work a flexible schedule with retail hours, including day, evening, weekends, and/or holidays.
