About the position

As an Asset Protection Manager for Wayfair, you will play a crucial role in supporting the Store Leadership team to achieve company objectives by managing all Asset Protection programs and policies within the store. This position carries the significant responsibility of ensuring the safety of our associates, customers, and the store environment. You will be tasked with mitigating external theft and addressing Organized Retail Crime trends, which involves networking with law enforcement, asset protection professionals, and other retailers to create comprehensive case files for repeat offenders, thereby minimizing exposure to loss and fraud. Additionally, you will support the Regional Asset Protection Manager(s) by conducting awareness training, performing root cause analysis, and executing threat assessments. In your role, you will focus on improving operational execution and profit performance by promoting company values related to customer experience. This includes training and developing associates through effective coaching and working closely with the Regional Asset Protection Manager and store management to identify priorities and develop operational and profit improvement strategies. You will analyze key metrics to identify operational deficiencies and financial risks, and develop tactics for improvement. Your responsibilities will also include conducting ongoing merchandise protection training, ensuring compliance with operational processes, and assisting with inventory management functions. You will be responsible for detecting, investigating, and documenting instances of internal and external theft, as well as other violations of law and company policy. This includes overseeing case development, monitoring for indicators of loss, and utilizing covert equipment and CCTV in accordance with company policy. You will proactively monitor controls and conduct surveillance to identify dishonest activities, respond to reported incidents, and network with retail and government resources to address organized retail crime activities. In terms of physical security and safety, you will conduct asset protection assessments to ensure compliance with company processes and legal requirements. You will ensure the safety and security of associates and customers, maintain necessary licenses and permits, and lead the store safety committee. Additionally, you will be responsible for recruiting, hiring, and staffing a team of effective asset protection team members, conducting new hire orientations, and developing performance reviews for your team. Your role will require you to build cross-functional partnerships with store leadership to ensure compliance with safety and security programs.

Responsibilities

  • Support and promote company values related to customer experience through training and development of associates.
  • Work with Regional Asset Protection Manager and store management to identify priorities and develop operational and profit improvement strategies.
  • Analyze key metrics to identify operational deficiencies and financial risks, and develop tactics to improve.
  • Conduct ongoing merchandise protection training and ensure timely completion of certification programs.
  • Review operational processes for compliance including inventory movement, cash office procedures, and omnichannel processes.
  • Train and validate process execution related to inventory management functions.
  • Schedule and conduct required asset protection, operations, and safety-related audits.
  • Conduct weekly data analysis to assess and report on trends to store leadership and RAPM.
  • Assist Store Manager and Operations Team with planning and execution of the annual inventory.
  • Detect, investigate, and document internal and external theft and other violations of law and/or company policy.
  • Oversee case development and disposition and manage multiple case assignments.
  • Monitor for indicators of loss and report incidents to the Regional Asset Protection Manager.
  • Utilize covert equipment and CCTV within company policy.
  • Proactively monitor controls and conduct surveillance to identify dishonest activity.
  • Utilize point of sale exception reporting tools to identify abnormal activity.
  • Respond to and investigate instances of reported dishonesty and conduct interviews.
  • Network with retail and government resources to address organized retail crime activities.
  • Conduct store asset protection assessments to ensure compliance with company processes and legal requirements.
  • Ensure compliance with physical building security and safety standards.
  • Maintain vendor and company certifications required for inspections and services.
  • Review safety trends and develop action plans with the store leadership team.
  • Recruit, hire, and staff a team of asset protection members.
  • Conduct new hire orientation and create weekly team schedules.

Requirements

  • 5+ years of asset protection experience in a retail environment.
  • 3+ years of supervisory experience required.
  • 3+ years in a multi-unit or big box Asset Protection manager capacity required.
  • Ability to form strong partnerships with stakeholders required.
  • Relevant work experience within the security, asset protection, and/or law enforcement/intelligence field.
  • Demonstrated working knowledge of security and life safety concepts, best practices, policies, programs, and procedures.
  • Experienced in the investigation of internal and external crime.
  • Sound business skills such as budgeting, strategic planning, and good decision-making ability.
  • Proficient with physical security design, development, and implementation.
  • Excellent analytical and organizational skills, with experience in hypothesis-driven learning and data analysis.
  • Superior communication skills with the ability to navigate complex organizations and generate buy-in for ideas and plans.
  • Strong reputation for honesty, integrity, and professionalism.

Nice-to-haves

  • Bachelor's Degree preferred but not required.
  • Certification in Wicklander Zulawski Interviewing preferred but not required.
  • Certification in an Asset Protection related field is a plus, but not required (e.g. Loss Prevention Professional (LPP), Certified Forensic Interviewer (CFI), LPC or LPQ).
