About the position

The Portfolio Manager Analyst position at Goldman Sachs Asset & Wealth Management (GSAM) involves managing multi-asset class portfolios for clients, including pension plans and insurance companies. The role requires a strong analytical focus, with responsibilities including trading across various asset classes, managing portfolio risk, and collaborating with internal teams to execute investment strategies. The successful candidate will join a diverse team dedicated to delivering long-term performance and client satisfaction.

Responsibilities

  • Managing multi-asset class portfolios in line with client guidelines, internal investment policies, and regulatory constraints.
  • Developing investment judgment and expertise, with the expectation of performing key portfolio management responsibilities within a few months after joining.
  • Leading investment and risk projects aimed at enhancing and scaling trading and risk management processes, infrastructure, and analytics.
  • Trading across asset classes (equities, fixed income, currencies, alternatives) and instruments (futures, forwards, ETFs, options, swaps, funds).
  • Managing portfolio risk across various investment vehicles and product desks, including exposure, currency and cash management, investment manager/vehicle oversight.
  • Working closely with internal GSAM teams to execute dynamic asset allocation views with consistency and scale.
  • Structuring trades across asset classes to manage the portfolio in line with hedging and flow considerations.
  • Managing derivative-based overlay strategies to enhance risk management profile of overall portfolios.
  • Analyzing portfolio risk and performance attribution and reporting findings to Senior Portfolio Managers on a weekly basis.
  • Producing investment updates and market commentary for dynamic portfolio views for divisional audiences.
  • Participating and at times serving as a project lead in complex portfolio events, including onboarding of new client mandates and portfolio restructurings.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree
  • 2+ years of investment management experience
  • Advanced degree or CFA designation preferred
  • Ability to communicate investment strategies and rationales to audiences of varying levels of sophistication
  • Experience in trading and managing risk for pension or insurance portfolios
  • High degree of investment awareness, including macroeconomic trends and implications for investing in a multi-asset class framework.
  • Intermediate or advanced knowledge of asset allocation principles and of factor investing approaches
  • Excellent writing and communication skills
  • Excellent project management skills
  • Detail-oriented and organized with the ability to manage multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment
  • Proficient in Excel and PowerPoint; Bloomberg, Reuters or financial data systems knowledge preferred
