About the position

The Assignment Clerk/Office Manager is responsible for planning, supervising, and coordinating the clerical operations of the District Court. This role involves overseeing clerical staff, maintaining court schedules, and ensuring efficient office procedures in a legal setting. The position requires strong leadership skills and the ability to manage multiple tasks effectively while providing support to the court and its personnel.

Responsibilities

  • Plans, supervises, and coordinates the overall clerical operations of the District Court.
  • Supervises and trains clerical staff.
  • Establishes and maintains office methods and procedures.
  • Maintains input for court docket and prepares court calendar for each courtroom.
  • Maintains an accurate and current list of all cases pending and schedules them for hearing.
  • Prepares monthly reports required by the Michigan Supreme Court and other administrative personnel.
  • Serves the public and assists staff with difficult problems and situations.
  • Opens, sorts, and processes mail.

Requirements

  • Five (5) years' experience as an office manager in a law office or legal setting supervising clerical employees.
  • Five (5) years as a Senior or Deputy District Court Clerk in Genesee County District Court.

Nice-to-haves

  • Knowledge of accounting procedures and computer applications.
  • Knowledge of legal terminology.
  • Ability to present ideas and recommendations effectively both orally and in writing.
