About the position

The Assistant Accounts Payable Manager will support the planning and direction of the Accounts Payable unit within the Office of the Vice President for Finance at MIT. This role involves supervising staff, ensuring compliance and reporting, and driving process improvements while maintaining excellent customer service for the MIT community.

Responsibilities

  • Assist with planning and directing the work outcomes, processes, and systems of the Accounts Payable unit.
  • Supervise staff at various levels and in various functions.
  • Drive reporting, compliance, analysis, and control of accounting and financial functions of A/P.
  • Ensure timely resolution of accounting discrepancies and assist with reconciliation processes.
  • Oversee the development and maintenance of a team dedicated to providing excellent customer service.
  • Be aware of the team's impact on other areas and promote ongoing process improvement and fraud prevention.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in accounting, business administration, or related field.
  • Four years' financial management experience, with at least three years in A/P administration.
  • At least two years providing customer service in some capacity.
  • Supervisory experience.
  • Experience with SAP or equivalent ERP system.
  • Experience in a high-volume A/P environment.
  • Excellent analytical, organizational, interpersonal, and verbal and written communication skills.
  • Attention to detail and ability to work independently with little instruction.
  • Advanced-level Excel skills.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience working with cloud-based systems/Coupa.
  • Experience in a higher education or nonprofit environment.
  • Experience working with OCR and robotic automation.
  • Understanding of 1099 and 1042S tax rules and preparation of appropriate tax files.
  • Ability to initiate wire transfers and enter fast checks using bank-provided software.
