About the position

The Assistant Aquatics Program Manager will coordinate fish management efforts for Lake Trout and Kokanee Salmon at Flaming Gorge Reservoir and lead the management of the Green River tailwater trout fishery. This role involves supervising entry-level fisheries biologists and managing various fisheries on the North Slope of the Uinta Mountains, ensuring effective fishery management and collaboration with state and federal partners.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate and lead fish population and angler surveys on Flaming Gorge Reservoir and Green River.
  • Analyze fish population and angler data to assess management needs and develop objectives.
  • Represent UDWR in interagency meetings with Wyoming Game and Fish regarding fishery management.
  • Supervise and mentor wildlife biologist II positions on the aquatic sportfish team.
  • Direct field surveys on lentic fisheries and provide management recommendations.
  • Prepare written reports to communicate biological information effectively.
  • Plan and develop funding proposals for projects around Flaming Gorge and other areas.
  • Coordinate management activities with regional supervisors, program coordinators, and stakeholders.
  • Assist with other sportfish and native fish program tasks throughout the region.

Requirements

  • Master's degree or enrollment in a Master's degree program in fisheries biology, natural resources, or a related field.
  • Professional experience with fisheries sampling techniques for North American freshwater fish.
  • Experience in analyzing and interpreting fisheries data.
  • Supervisory and mentorship experience with the ability to work cooperatively.
  • Effective communication skills in writing and speech.
