About the position

The Assistant Architect (NY HELPS) position is responsible for overseeing construction and rehabilitation projects for various clients within the New York State Office of General Services. The role involves coordinating project documents, including drawings and specifications, and assisting senior architects in delivering responsive services to client agencies. The position requires extensive knowledge of building codes and architectural standards, as most projects are budget and deadline driven.

Responsibilities

  • Responsible for the construction and rehabilitation projects for various clients.
  • Coordinate the development of project documents including drawings and specifications with architectural/engineering consultants.
  • Assist the Senior and Associate Architect to deliver services that are responsive to the critical needs of client agencies.
  • Ensure compliance with building, fire codes, and architectural standards for projects.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Six years of architectural experience in design or drafting on buildings requiring multi-discipline trade involvement, under the direction of a registered architect or professional engineer.
  • An Associate's degree in architecture or related field and four years of architectural design or drafting experience under a registered architect or professional engineer.
  • A four-year Bachelor's degree in architectural/structural engineering studies and two years of architectural design or drafting experience under a registered architect or professional engineer.
  • A five-year Bachelor's degree in architectural studies or a Master's degree in architectural studies and one year of architectural design or drafting experience under a registered architect.
  • An Architect's license with current registration from any state or territory of the United States.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with institutional, commercial, healthcare, academic, office, or residential buildings.
