About the position

The Assistant/Associate Director of Career Services at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign's School of Information Sciences (iSchool) is responsible for delivering comprehensive career support to undergraduate and graduate students. This role involves providing career coaching, facilitating employer communication, and integrating career education into various academic and extracurricular activities. The position aims to enhance student career readiness and connect students with potential employers.

Responsibilities

  • Provide one-on-one advising for students on career development and job search strategies.
  • Coach students on career-driven topics such as resumes, interviewing, and job negotiations.
  • Conduct resume critiques and practice interviews.
  • Research industry trends and provide up-to-date information to stakeholders.
  • Mentor students in developing professional skills through projects and organizations.
  • Create and deliver career workshops and seminars.
  • Organize and participate in career events like fairs and networking sessions.
  • Collaborate with faculty to integrate career services into the academic experience.
  • Maintain resources for students and employers, coordinating with stakeholders as needed.
  • Collect and maintain student records related to career services.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree required.
  • For Assistant Director: 3 years of experience in recruiting, HR, career services, or academic advising.
  • For Associate Director: 5 years of experience in the same fields.
  • Experience advising students in a university career services office is preferred.
  • Experience working with international students is preferred.
  • Experience with data collection and analysis for decision making is preferred.

Nice-to-haves

  • Master's degree preferred.
  • Experience teaching or presenting to large groups is preferred.
  • Work experience in information sciences outside of a university setting is preferred.
