About the position

The Assistant/Associate Director of Housing Operations at Grinnell College is responsible for leading all housing operations within the Residence Life department. This role involves managing room assignments, housing selection, and coordinating with various campus departments to address housing concerns. The position also includes oversight of the housing database, StarRez, and collaboration with the Dean of Students to supervise an Administrative Assistant. The ideal candidate will engage with a diverse student population and contribute to the college's commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion.

Responsibilities

  • Provide leadership for all housing operations, including room/roommate assignments, housing selection/releases, break/summer housing, and early arrivals.
  • Collaborate with cross-campus departments to facilitate housing concerns.
  • Oversee departmental use of the housing database, StarRez.
  • Represent the department at various meetings and committee assignments.
  • Supervise the Administrative Assistant assigned to Residence Life in partnership with the Dean of Students.
  • Work closely with a diverse student population.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree from a four-year college or university.
  • Three years or more experience in a related field.
  • Strong interpersonal and problem-solving skills.
  • Effective oral and written communication skills.
  • Ability to communicate effectively and tactfully across all levels of constituencies.
  • Experience working effectively within a diverse community.
  • Ability to independently organize and manage workloads efficiently.
  • Ability to remain calm in emergency situations.
  • Commitment to championing Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion.

Nice-to-haves

  • Master's Degree in higher education, counseling, social work, or a related field.
  • Background in Residence Life.
  • Familiarity with housing database systems (e.g. StarRez, Adirondack).
