About the position

The Assistant/Associate Director, Prospect & Portfolio Management, serves as a collaborative partner and leader for fundraisers on strategic portfolio composition and donor strategy development. This role is pivotal in driving fundraiser activity toward achieving goals and metrics. Utilizing advanced knowledge and skills, the position implements prospect management best practices that encourage major and transformational gift relationships, maximizing fundraising opportunities within gift officer portfolios. The role is integral to the Florida Gulf Coast University (FGCU), a member of the State University System of Florida, which is committed to affirmative action and equal employment opportunities. In collaboration with the leadership team, the Assistant/Associate Director develops and maintains dynamic portfolios that support the University's strategic plan and fundraising priorities. This includes leading prospect management efforts for the leadership and major/principal gift fundraising team, overseeing and guiding portfolios, and serving as a strategic partner to monitor and assess portfolio activity, such as actions and opportunities. The position also involves guiding the fundraising team towards effectively qualifying, cultivating, soliciting, and stewarding donors and prospects by planning and developing innovative strategies for portfolio growth. The role requires the use of research and donor analytics to analyze patterns of giving and donor characteristics, creating annual and ad hoc strategy recommendations for maximizing solicitations. The Assistant/Associate Director leads portfolio review meetings to oversee prospect management, including portfolio assignment or un-assignment requests, qualification strategy development, and accountability for donor next steps. Additionally, the position leverages analytics and industry best practices to help fundraisers prioritize donor prospects, assists in developing, managing, tracking, and reporting fundraising goals and metrics, and conducts regular data audits to ensure data accuracy in Raiser's Edge. The role also includes monitoring fundraisers' performance metrics and strategically utilizing data to assist fundraisers in meeting their individual goals, while proactively outlining milestones, outcomes, and deliverables to communicate effectively with leadership.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and maintain dynamic portfolios to support the University's strategic plan and fundraising priorities.
  • Lead prospect management efforts for leadership and major/principal gift fundraising team.
  • Oversee, manage, develop, and guide portfolios by serving as a strategic partner to monitor and assess portfolio activity.
  • Guide fundraising team towards effectively qualifying, cultivating, soliciting, and stewarding donors and prospects.
  • Use research and donor analytics to analyze patterns of giving and donor characteristics to create strategy recommendations.
  • Lead portfolio review meetings to oversee prospect management, including portfolio assignment or un-assignment requests.
  • Leverage analytics and industry best practices to help fundraisers prioritize donor prospects.
  • Assist in developing, managing, tracking, and reporting fundraising goals and metrics.
  • Conduct regular data audits and data hygiene projects to ensure data accuracy in Raiser's Edge.
  • Monitor fundraisers' performance metrics and strategically utilize data to assist fundraisers in meeting their goals.
  • Proactively outline milestones, outcomes, and deliverables and communicate them to leadership.
  • Create progress reports as requested.
  • Document and maintain prospect development processes and procedures.
  • Maximize use of Raiser's Edge NXT Database to support fundraising activities.
  • Complete basic prospect research requests, including bios and gift capacity reviews.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution in an appropriate area of specialization and six years of full-time experience directly related to the job functions (Assistant Director) or seven years for Associate Director.
  • Ten years of directly related full-time experience (Assistant Director) or eleven years for Associate Director.
  • Professional full-time experience with Advancement, fundraising, or other relevant experience.
  • Experience operating a personal computer and proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint, Publisher, and Outlook).
  • Knowledge of the principles, best practices, trends, and legal constraints of fundraising and gift solicitation within higher education.
  • Knowledge of or ability to learn Raiser's Edge.
