About the position

The Department of Educational Psychology at the University of Minnesota is seeking to fill a tenure-track Assistant or tenured Associate Professor position in the Quantitative Methods in Education program. This role is designed for a scholar who is proficient in the development and application of statistical methods in educational research. The successful candidate will be expected to contribute significantly to research, teaching, and service within the department, college, and university. We are particularly interested in candidates who can demonstrate a commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion, especially in relation to providing equitable opportunities for historically marginalized groups to learn and thrive. The position entails a 9-month, full-time appointment located on the Minneapolis campus, with a target start date of August 25, 2025. The selected individual will be responsible for developing and maintaining a strong record of scholarship, particularly in the area of statistical methods applicable to educational settings. This includes a commitment to securing external funding to support their research endeavors. Additionally, the faculty member will mentor and advise graduate students, teaching both undergraduate and graduate courses on various advanced statistical topics, including multivariate statistics, Bayesian methods, and causal modeling. Service to the department, college, and university is also a key component of this position, which includes participation in internal committees, outreach activities, and engagement with professional organizations in the field of quantitative methods in education. The Department of Educational Psychology is dedicated to enhancing professional practice in various educational and community settings, and the faculty member will play a crucial role in this mission.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and sustain a strong and coherent record of scholarship in the development and application of statistical methods in educational settings.
  • Maintain a commitment to securing external funds in support of scholarly inquiry.
  • Mentor and advise graduate students.
  • Teach undergraduate and graduate-level courses on topics such as multivariate statistics, Bayesian methods, causal modeling, and statistical computing.
  • Develop and deliver courses that effectively account for diverse backgrounds, communities, identities, and abilities.
  • Participate in Department, College, University, and outreach activities, including service on internal committees and making presentations to external constituencies.
  • Engage in the activities of relevant professional organizations in quantitative methods in education.

Requirements

  • An earned doctorate in educational psychology, psychology, statistics, or a related field with emphasis in quantitative methods.
  • Experience or demonstrated ability in teaching graduate courses in applied statistics.
  • Preparation, training, and experience focused on the development and application of statistical methods in educational research or related settings.
  • Experience and/or interest in working with diverse student populations or in diverse communities.
  • Evidence of a strong and well-established programmatic line of research and resultant research productivity for Associate level applicants.
  • Established record of securing external sponsored funds for Associate level applicants.
  • Evidence of leadership in the field, such as serving on editorial boards or national/international committees for Associate level applicants.
  • Experience mentoring and advising students at the graduate level.
