About the position

The Department of Mechanical & Aerospace Engineering (MAE) at Old Dominion University (ODU) is seeking applications for an open-rank tenure-track or tenured faculty position in biomechanics. This role aims to enhance research and education in biomechanics, focusing on areas such as tissue engineering, injury modeling, and rehabilitation. The selected candidate will also contribute to the newly established Institute for Engineering in Medicine, Health, and Human Performance (EnMed).

Responsibilities

  • Develop and sustain an externally funded research program.
  • Develop and teach biomechanics and other mechanical engineering/biomedical engineering courses.
  • Advise students.
  • Perform service obligations.
  • Serve on committees.

Requirements

  • Earned Ph.D. in Mechanical engineering, Biomedical engineering or a closely related field by May 2025.
  • For assistant professor: a record of conducting research in biomechanics evidenced by peer-reviewed publications.
  • For associate/full professor: a record of sustained research including peer-reviewed publications and external funding in biomechanics.

Nice-to-haves

  • Post-doctoral research experience.
  • Teaching experience as a teaching assistant or course instructor, commensurate with experience.
  • Record of research funding such as fellowships or external grants, commensurate with experience.
  • A plan for developing an externally funded research program at ODU.
