About the position
The University of Hawaii at Manoa is seeking an Assistant/Associate/Full Professor in Urban and Regional Planning, focusing on Planning for Climate Change and Sustainability. This permanent, tenure-track position is full-time and will commence on August 1, 2025. The role involves developing a research agenda, teaching courses, mentoring students, and contributing to departmental service, with an emphasis on creating inclusive and equitable communities.
Responsibilities
- Develop and maintain a research agenda in planning for climate change and sustainability.
- Publish scholarly, peer-reviewed research in areas of expertise.
- Seek extramural funding to support the research agenda.
- Teach undergraduate and graduate courses on planning for climate change and sustainability.
- Supervise and mentor MURP and PhD students.
- Provide service to the department, college, and university.
- Other duties as assigned by the department chair.
Requirements
- Ph.D. in urban planning or a closely related field from an accredited institution; ABDs will be considered if all degree requirements are completed prior to hire.
- Demonstrated knowledge and documented research record in planning for climate change and sustainability.
- Ability to teach courses in urban and regional planning curriculum and related areas.
- Demonstrated ability to work effectively and collegially with students, faculty, staff, and administration.
- Demonstrated ability to maintain professionalism in meetings and conferring with others.
Nice-to-haves
- Demonstrated ability to secure research grant proposals.
- Demonstrated interest in and substantial record of supporting students.
- Evidence of research in planning or planning-related fields in the Asia Pacific region.
- Demonstrated ability to teach research methods and/or other urban and regional planning courses.
