About the position

The School of Molecular Sciences at Arizona State University is seeking a full-time Teaching Professor (all ranks) in Organic Chemistry. This position is primarily focused on undergraduate teaching, with responsibilities that may extend to other chemistry programs. The role includes supervising teaching assistants, developing course materials, and engaging in service activities at various academic levels. The position is non-tenure eligible and renewable on an academic year basis, contingent upon performance and resource availability.

Responsibilities

• Teach undergraduate courses in organic chemistry, both in-person and online.
• Supervise teaching assistants and junior faculty.
• Develop course materials and future program plans in collaboration with faculty and staff.
• Engage in unit, college, and university-level service activities.

Requirements

• PhD degree in organic chemistry or a closely related field by the time of appointment.
• One year of post-secondary teaching experience as faculty of record in an organic chemistry course.
• Ability to teach in digital environments such as Canvas (asynchronously and/or synchronously).
• Familiarity with laboratory safety policies.
• Effective teaching ability, evidenced by peer and/or student reviews.

Nice-to-haves

• Experience in creating curricula and teaching organic chemistry both in-person and online.
• Record of using active learning and non-traditional models of instruction.
• Demonstrated commitment to serving and understanding the needs of online students.
• Experience teaching and developing curricula for organic chemistry lab courses.
• Experience supervising and mentoring teaching assistants.
• Evidence of collaborative activities with other faculty and staff.
• Participation in the higher education community and professional development activities.
• Evidence of scholarship or research in organic chemistry or chemical education.
