About the position

The MRI Physicist will collaborate with faculty and researchers at Florida State University to develop and implement advanced MRI acquisition and analysis techniques, focusing on functional brain imaging. This role involves serving as a principal investigator for funding opportunities, overseeing data quality assurance, and providing technical support for MRI research. The ideal candidate will also supervise staff and students, contribute to the development of MRI protocols, and disseminate research findings through seminars and scientific meetings.

Responsibilities

  • Implement, evaluate, and develop novel MRI acquisition and analysis techniques for human MRI scanners.
  • Serve as principal investigator by soliciting external funding opportunities.
  • Support advanced MRI modalities such as multi-band BOLD fMRI and multi-echo BOLD fMRI.
  • Oversee data quality assurance/quality control of existing MR equipment.
  • Provide scientific and technical assistance to researchers and faculty.
  • Assist researchers in implementing and developing novel pulse sequences.
  • Supervise staff, post-doctoral fellows, graduate and undergraduate students.
  • Contribute to the definition and maintenance of standard operating procedures.
  • Organize seminars to inform researchers about new imaging methods and analytical techniques.
  • Attend scientific meetings to disseminate research results.

Requirements

  • Doctoral degree in MR physics, biomedical engineering, electrical engineering, or a related field.
  • Expert understanding of MR physics, image acquisition, signal processing, and image reconstruction for human 3T MRI.
  • Ability to design experiments, optimize MRI protocols, analyze data, and interpret results.
  • Experience with MR pulse sequence programming.
  • Knowledge of MRI methods such as functional MRI, DTI, T1/T2 relaxation, MRS, ASL, and MR angiography.
  • Excellent communication skills for interacting with a variety of MRI users.

Nice-to-haves

  • PhD in MR physics, biomedical engineering, electrical engineering, or related field.
  • Experience with Siemens MRI scanners, including Siemens IDEA and ICE certification.
  • MRI certification by the American Board of Medical Physicists.
  • Research background in neuroimaging analysis using FSL, SPM, Freesurfer, AFNI, MATLAB, and/or Python-based toolboxes.
