About the position

The Tehama County Public Works Department is seeking dedicated professionals to join their team as Assistant, Associate, or Civil Engineers. Under general supervision, the selected candidates will engage in various professional field and office engineering tasks related to the management, planning, design, construction, and maintenance of public works projects and daily departmental operations. This role involves project management and administration, as well as collaboration with developers, contractors, and representatives from other agencies regarding facility and infrastructure development. The engineers will oversee professional services and construction contracts, assist higher-level engineers and department management, conduct studies, prepare and present staff reports, and perform related work as required. This position is part of a multi-level professional classification series, allowing incumbents to be assigned to any of the three levels based on their experience, proficiency, and the complexity of the engineering functions assigned. The department emphasizes a proactive and cooperative team environment, aiming to meet all planning, engineering, operating, maintenance, and administrative needs of Tehama County Public Works. Responsibilities

  • Plans, designs, and inspects various phases of civil engineering public works construction projects.
  • Defines the scope of projects and performs historical document research and review.
  • Conducts surveying and engineering analysis of alternatives.
  • Performs map and field studies, drafts site plans using specialized computer software, and applies engineering principles to specific problems.
  • Coordinates construction schedules with other projects and agencies, prepares and reviews cost estimates, and inspects construction to ensure compliance with documents.
  • Prepares construction plans, contract specifications, and design calculations for various facilities, estimating construction costs.
  • Acts as Resident Engineer on capital improvement construction projects (Civil Engineer level).
  • Signs and stamps plans, specifications, and cost estimates (Civil Engineer level).
  • Performs supervisory responsibilities for engineering functions and activities (Civil Engineer level).

Requirements

  • Graduation from an accredited four-year college or university with a Bachelor's degree in civil engineering or a related engineering field (Assistant Engineer).
  • Graduation from an accredited four-year college or university with a Bachelor's degree in civil engineering or a related technical field (Associate Engineer).
  • Two (2) years of professional engineering design, plan review, and project administration experience, preferably in a public agency setting (Associate Engineer).
  • Three (3) years of professional engineering design, plan review, and project administration experience, preferably in a public agency setting (Civil Engineer).
  • Requires a valid California driver's license or the ability to obtain one within one (1) month from date of hire.
  • Requires an Engineer-in-Training License (Associate Engineer).
  • Requires a registered Professional Engineer License within the United States and must obtain a California license within one (1) year from date of hire (Civil Engineer).
