About the position

The University of Houston is seeking a highly qualified biomedical researcher to join the Department of Vision Sciences in the College of Optometry. This position is available for an assistant, associate, or full professor and is focused on conducting independent, externally funded research in vision science or related biomedical fields. The successful candidate will also be responsible for teaching fundamental vision science topics that align with their research expertise.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct a nationally recognized, independent research program in vision science or relevant applied biomedical sciences.
  • Investigate normal or abnormal sensory or perceptual aspects of monocular or binocular visual processing through psychophysical, physiological, and/or imaging studies.
  • Teach fundamental vision science topics in the College's optometry program and graduate program in physiological optics.
  • Collaborate with other vision researchers and utilize a variety of approaches ranging from molecular and cellular to behavioral and optical.

Requirements

  • Expertise in visual psychophysics and investigation of visual processing.
  • Experience in conducting psychophysical, physiological, and/or imaging studies on visual capabilities.
  • Ability to teach vision science topics related to color, form, motion, depth, and spatiotemporal patterns.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with patient-based or translational investigations.
  • Familiarity with biomedical research strengths within the College and University.
