About the position

The Assistant / Associate Professor (Counseling Training Clinic Director) at Eastern Michigan University is responsible for overseeing the Counseling Training Clinic, which includes managing operations, budget, and client services. The role involves teaching undergraduate and graduate courses, providing academic advising, and engaging in community outreach to promote mental health services. The ideal candidate will demonstrate a commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion in their professional practice and contribute to the growth of the counseling discipline.

Responsibilities

  • Teach contractual load of undergraduate and graduate courses as assigned by the department or school.
  • Assign and submit grades in accordance with established University schedules.
  • Keep posted office hours during the week which are scheduled at times most beneficial to students.
  • Provide academic advising to students, if applicable.
  • Serve on search committees for hiring of new faculty members, departmental committees and other service committees across the university.
  • Participate in activities such as student registration, orientation, convocations and commencements.
  • Attend and participate in scheduled departmental meetings and functions.
  • Provide other support service to the department, college and/or university, if applicable.
  • Engage in pursuits that enable them to remain current in their respective disciplines.
  • Engage in pursuits that help to further organize and contribute to growth of the body of knowledge in their respective disciplines, and/or to explore interdisciplinary implications.
  • Perform related Departmental duties as required.

Requirements

  • Earned a doctorate degree in Counseling/Counselor Education from a CACREP-accredited program or experience teaching in a CACREP-accredited program.
  • A minimum of 3 years of clinical experience in the counseling profession.
  • A record of scholarly achievement commensurate with expectations at the appropriate rank in the Department of Leadership & Counseling.
  • Eligibility for full professional counselor licensure in the state of Michigan.
  • Teaching and supervision experience at the graduate level.
  • Demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion and justice in clinical and/or higher education settings.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience engaging with community and school partners to establish mental health outreach and services.
  • Administrative experience in higher education settings.
  • Evidence of professional engagement in counseling associations.
