About the position

The College of Music at Michigan State University is seeking an exceptional choral conductor, educator, and scholar for a full-time, tenure-track Assistant/Associate Professor of Choral Music position, starting in Fall 2025. The role involves teaching courses in choral literature and conducting, leading ensembles, and developing new courses based on the candidate's expertise. The successful candidate will contribute to a dynamic choral program, mentor graduate students, and engage in community outreach to promote choral music.

Responsibilities

• Teach courses in choral literature and conducting.
• Lead a choral ensemble.
• Develop potential courses related to the candidate's background and scholarly interests.
• Mentor choral conducting graduate students and support their scholarly work.
• Serve on MM and DMA committees.
• Participate in committee service and recruiting activities.
• Foster collaboration within the College of Music and the community.
• Cultivate a positive environment that supports diversity among students.

Requirements

• Doctorate in Choral Conducting or Ph.D. with choral emphasis or commensurate experience.
• Prior experience teaching in a university setting.
• Established status as a choral artist/teacher/scholar demonstrated by creative activity and teaching excellence.
• Commitment to an inclusive and equitable approach to teaching and learning.
• Demonstrated success in teaching conducting and score study skills.
• Ability to lead vibrant collegiate choral ensembles.

• Experience in conceptualizing and teaching a systematic, inclusive approach to choral literature.
• Record of mentoring a diverse cohort of graduate students.
• Innovative programming that includes music of historically marginalized composers.
