About the position

The Assistant/Associate Professor of Data Visualization at Parsons School of Design is a tenure-track position aimed at candidates who are creative practitioners in data visualization and machine learning. The role involves teaching, engaging in scholarship or professional practice, and contributing to university service. The faculty member will develop innovative pedagogies in data visualization and machine learning, fostering interdisciplinary collaboration within the institution.

Responsibilities

  • Teach undergraduate and graduate courses in data visualization and machine learning.
  • Hold regular office hours and participate in extracurricular teaching activities such as critiques and thesis supervision.
  • Engage in scholarship or professional/creative practice at a level commensurate with faculty rank.
  • Participate in university service, including committee assignments and program leadership roles.
  • Mentor and support students from diverse backgrounds.

Requirements

  • An MS, MFA, or equivalent terminal degree in a related field or equivalent professional experience.
  • Active professional practice or scholarship in data visualization, data analysis, and machine learning.
  • Demonstrated ability to mentor students from diverse backgrounds and a commitment to progressive education.
  • Strong collaborative skills and a record of working well with diverse groups.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience teaching at various educational levels including college and community-based settings.
  • Knowledge of curriculum development and student support in higher education.
  • Experience with English language learners and first-generation college students.
  • University-level teaching experience that includes studios, seminars, and tutorials.
