About The Position

The Assistant/Associate Professor of Education: Multilingual Learning & Literacy position at Westfield State University is a full-time, tenure-track role aimed at engaging an outstanding teacher/scholar. Requirements

  • Earned Doctoral degree in Bilingual/Multilingual/EL/ESL Education, Reading, Language, and Literacy, or related field.
  • Minimum of 3 years teaching experience in PreK-12 public school settings.

Nice To Haves

  • Prior teaching experience in higher education.
  • ESL or Reading Specialist Massachusetts teacher licensure or equivalent.
  • Teaching experience in PreK-8 settings in urban schools and communities.
  • Experience with flexible format for course delivery (day, evening; in person, hybrid, online).
  • Evidence of effective use of learner-centered pedagogies and culturally relevant and sustaining practices.
  • Multilingual.

Responsibilities

  • Teach foundational and pedagogical courses, including Sheltered English Immersion and foundational Literacy courses.
  • Teach at the undergraduate level and advise undergraduates.
  • Engage in department-wide anti-racism education work.
  • Develop innovative pedagogy for the classroom.
  • Provide excellence in teaching across different modalities including face-to-face, online, and hybrid classes.
  • Engage in scholarly activity and provide academic advising to students.
  • Offer service to the department, university, and community.
