About the position

The Assistant/Associate Professor of Equine Studies at the University of Montana Western is responsible for teaching undergraduate courses in Equine Studies and related areas, integrating equine behavior, health, and management into experiential learning. The role emphasizes a block schedule model, allowing for intensive engagement with students in small class sizes. Faculty are expected to contribute to scholarly activities, service, and community collaboration, while maintaining a commitment to professional development and student mentorship.

Responsibilities

  • Teach undergraduate courses in Equine Studies and related areas.
  • Develop and offer courses based on expertise, including topics like acupuncture, chiropractic care, and equine rehabilitation.
  • Participate in university committees and advise students.
  • Supervise internships and foster relationships with community members and alumni.
  • Maintain scholarly productivity and engage in professional service activities.

Requirements

  • Terminal degree (PhD or DVM/VMD) in Animal Science (Equine emphasis preferred), Equine Nutrition, Agricultural Education (Equine emphasis preferred), or other relevant fields.
  • Experience with horses.

Nice-to-haves

  • Familiarity and interest in natural horsemanship.
  • Experience teaching at the collegiate level.
  • Background in equine activities, training, or competition.

Benefits

  • Competitive salary up to $54,000 for Assistant Professor and up to $60,000 for Associate Professor.
