About the position

The Assistant/Associate Professor of Fashion Studies at Kendall College of Art and Design (KCAD) is a full-time, tenure-track position focused on preparing students for careers in the fashion industry. The role involves teaching a range of courses related to fashion design, engaging in professional development, advising students, and contributing to the college's mission through service and community engagement. Faculty members are expected to maintain a connection to the fashion industry and participate in program development and assessment.

Responsibilities

• Teach 18 semester credit hours per academic year, typically 3 courses each fall and spring semester.
• Engage in continuous improvement in teaching effectiveness and contribute to scholarly activities within the discipline.
• Advise students regarding their academic plans and post-graduation opportunities.
• Participate in program and curriculum development and assessment.
• Prepare and distribute syllabi according to college standards.
• Assess and evaluate student learning and provide formative feedback throughout the course.
• Maintain regular office hours for student support.
• Participate in service to the college and shared governance.
• Manage the fashion construction lab with student employees.
• Contribute to academic functions including commencement and fashion shows/exhibits.

Requirements

• Master's degree in Fashion, Fashion Design, Fashion Studies, or a related field.
• Minimum of three years' industry experience in fashion or garment design and development.
• Minimum of three years of college-level teaching experience in fashion beyond teaching assistantships.

Nice-to-haves

• MFA in Fashion with emphasis in garment design.
• Experience in accessories design and/or knowledge of leather construction techniques.
• Knowledge of merchandising and/or retail buying.
• Prior experience in product development.
• 3D printing experience.
