About the position

Hofstra University is seeking a tenure-track Assistant/Associate Professor for its Master of Science in Occupational Therapy program. The role involves developing and teaching curriculum, advising students, engaging in scholarly activities, and collaborating with other allied health programs. The successful candidate will contribute to the academic community through research, presentations, and mentoring, while promoting a supportive and inclusive environment for students and faculty.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and teach curriculum in areas of expertise as determined by the Program Director.
  • Serve as an academic advisor to students.
  • Engage in scholarly activities including conducting research, presenting at conferences, and publishing.
  • Pursue grants and mentor student research.
  • Collaborate with other allied health programs to enhance student learning and contribute to program development.
  • Participate in committee service within the program, department, university, and profession.

Requirements

  • Minimum of 5 years of occupational therapy practice and at least 2 years of teaching experience in an occupational therapy program.
  • Licensed or eligible for licensure as an occupational therapist in New York.
  • Commitment to academic excellence, scholarship, and professional growth.
  • Proven ability to work collaboratively with faculty, students, and colleagues across disciplines.
  • Demonstrated experience in interdisciplinary collaboration with allied health programs.
  • Strong communication skills with colleagues and entry-level MOT students.

Nice-to-haves

  • Preference for candidates currently certified by NBCOT.
  • Enrolled in or interested in enrolling in a post-professional degree (i.e., PhD, OTD, EdD, DHSc, DSc, ScD).
  • Demonstrated teaching experience with content expertise in various disciplines (pediatrics, adults' disability, assistive technology, etc.).
  • Earned terminal doctoral degree in Occupational Therapy, Health Sciences, or related field.
  • Established record of scholarship including research, conference presentations or awards.
