About the position

Walsh University in North Canton, Ohio, invites applications for a core faculty position within the Doctorate in Physical Therapy Program. The successful candidate will have expertise in inpatient physical therapy care with demonstrated knowledge and proficiency in the management of cardio-pulmonary conditions and/or management of conditions in the geriatric population. We are seeking a collaborative educator who will complement our existing team focused on developing leaders in service to meet the needs of society and the profession. The position is a 12-month tenure-eligible faculty appointment with rank commensurate with experience. Primary academic responsibilities of the position include involvement in teaching, scholarship, and service. Teaching includes providing instruction and student assessment in assigned courses. Other responsibilities include course and program assessment, accreditation activities, academic advising, and program and university governance. Faculty members are expected to participate in strategic planning initiatives and implementation. The faculty member will be instrumental in teaching and advancing the mission and vision of Walsh University and our graduate physical therapy program. The faculty member will report directly to the Chair of the Physical Therapy program. Our Physical Therapy program is housed within the School of Behavioral and Health Sciences, which includes graduate programs in Occupational Therapy and Counseling and Human Development. We promote collaboration within the School.

Responsibilities

  • Lead course delivery within area of expertise including content delivery and assessment of student learning.
  • Teach content related to physical therapy management of cardiopulmonary and vascular conditions.
  • Effective communication and organizational skills with the ability to work collaboratively with internal stakeholders, including faculty, staff and students within the program and across the university.
  • Evaluation of students to determine readiness to progress in the curriculum.
  • Teach courses assigned throughout our 12-month program.
  • Professional service with current active membership in a professional society (i.e. APTA).
  • Ability to participate in independent or collaborative scholarly activities including the design, implementation and completion of products with dissemination through presentations or publications.
  • Mentorship of students.
  • Other duties as assigned or required.

Requirements

  • Must be licensed or eligible for physical therapy licensure in the State of Ohio.
  • A minimum of 3 years of clinical rehabilitation experience.
  • Teaching experience.
  • A professional degree (BS/MS PT or DPT) combined with an earned terminal academic degree (i.e. DHSc, EdD, PhD) OR a professional DPT degree and clinical specialization or other advanced credentialing with a willingness to enroll in a terminal academic doctorate.
  • Interest in pursuing grant funding for scholarly interests collaboratively with other faculty.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in classroom or laboratory instruction with graduate students, particularly physical therapist students.
  • A minimum of 5 years of clinical rehabilitation experience.
  • Clinical specialization or expertise in an ABPTS specialty area: cardiovascular & pulmonary, geriatrics, oncology, pelvic health, wound management.
  • Existing record of peer-reviewed presentations or publications.
  • Active involvement in the American Physical Therapy Association, one of its Academy's or Sections, and/or a state (Ohio) Physical Therapy Association or another professional association.
  • Involvement in professional community development activities.
