About the position

The Herff College of Engineering at the University of Memphis is seeking qualified applicants for an Assistant/Associate/Full Professor of Practice or Teaching position. This is a twelve-month, non-tenure track appointment. Hiring is contingent on final budget approval. The primary responsibilities include training students, faculty, and staff on safe use of equipment in shops and maker spaces and supervision of other training personnel, managing maintenance of equipment, staffing, and student use of shops and maker spaces, assisting students in realization of projects using shops and maker spaces, and providing direction and management of research equipment technicians in the college. The position will also include the following duties and responsibilities: * Develop and maintain safe operating procedures and training protocols in compliance with the University Office of Environmental Health & Safety as well as maintain records of personnel qualified to use different pieces of equipment. * Specify and purchase new equipment and necessary supplies. * Manage the shop and maker spaces for cleanliness and maintenance. * Work with industry and other college staff to attain student project sponsorship. * Develop and maintain policies and processes to guide technicians in laboratory upkeep. * Plan for equipment upgrades and maintenance. * Assist with relevant parts of ABET accreditation documentation (facilities and safety). * Provide support on college initiatives, such as E-day and Career Fairs.

Requirements

  • Master's degree or 5 years of relevant experience in engineering, technology, or closely related field.
  • Experience in using and maintaining shop and maker space equipment such as 3D printers, laser cutters, CNC machines, tools for electronics fabrication/assembly, hand tools, power tools, sewing machines and textile tools, and associated software.
