About the position
Tougaloo College, a private four-year, co-educational institution in Jackson, Mississippi, invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant/Associate Professor of Psychology teaching position beginning as early as fall 2024. The successful candidate will provide responsible and professional instructional needs of the department, as well as academic and professional advisement and mentorship to students in instruction, research, and service activities. Highly qualified candidates may have opportunities for leadership roles within the department. The position reports directly to the Chair of the Psychology Department.
Responsibilities
- Teaching four undergraduate courses per semester (e.g. Child and Adolescent Psychology, Abnormal Psychology, History and Systems, Experimental or Psychology of Women)
- Student advising
- Supervising students' senior papers
- Preparing institutional effectiveness planning documents
- Serving the College through committee participation
- Supporting departmental efforts for continued improvement of programs
Requirements
- Ph.D. in Psychology with some teaching experience at the collegiate or university level preferred
- Area of specialization in Psychology is open
- Applicants with ABD in the field will also be considered, however, the Ph.D. is required for tenure consideration
- Excellent interpersonal and analytic skills
- Grant writing experience will be an asset
- Evidence of scholarly activity, publication, and innovation is valued
- Ability to work collaboratively and collegially with faculty and community members is essential
