About The Position

Requirements

  • PhD or MFA in Theatre or related field
  • Experience teaching at the university level
  • Substantive experience in the professional field of Drama and Theatre for Children and Youth
  • Experience working with diverse communities of students and/or scholars
  • Affiliation with Professional Networking Organizations (e.g. AATE, TYA/USA, ASSITEJ, ATHE, ASTR, etc.)
  • Demonstrated potential to achieve tenure through teaching, service, and scholarship/creative activity

  • Expertise in Directing for Young Audiences
  • Experience in Creative Drama/Process Drama
  • Knowledge of Storytelling and Theatre for the Very Young
  • Experience in Devising with and for Young People
  • Familiarity with Sensory Theatre and Drama Pedagogy
  • Skills in Immersive Theatre and Digital Storytelling
  • Understanding of Culturally Responsive Teaching
  • Experience with Children with Special Needs and Accessibility and Inclusion
  • Knowledge of Puppetry and Playwriting for Young Audiences
  • Experience in Arts Advocacy and Educational Outreach related to Productions

Responsibilities

  • Teach 4 classes annually within the TYA program
  • Collaborate with other disciplines within Theater, especially the Imagine U producing wing of the Wirtz Center
  • Collaborate with teachers in the Evanston/Skokie District 65 Drama program
  • Serve as head of the TYA Module, mentoring students with an interest in the field
  • Curriculum and special event development
  • Full participation in the life of the department
