About the position

Northeastern University is a national leader in cooperative education in which students alternate between academic study and work experiences. The College of Engineering has a robust co-op program for graduate engineering students and its rapid expansion now requires more support to continue developing and growing the program. This is a full time, non-tenure track faculty position, primarily working with students in the College of Engineering's Multidisciplinary Graduate Engineering (MGEN) Unit on the Oakland campus. Responsibilities

  • Develop partnerships with employers by working with executive, supervisory and human resources contacts.
  • Develop new and maintain ongoing co-op positions, and make appropriate referrals for students to apply to these positions.
  • Maintain a current understanding of the industry/field, employers, and positions.
  • Conduct site visits to new and existing employers.
  • Prepare students for the co-op search and work experience by teaching co-op related courses each semester and through individual advising meetings.
  • Teach tools appropriate for co-op search (interviewing skills, resume writing, LinkedIn, professional behavior, and job search tools) as well as career foundations topics (such as ethics, mindset, mindfulness, motivation, and diversity).
  • Be the primary point of contact for a large group of students in preparing for co-op and while on co-op.
  • Collaborate with college faculty, administration, and other co-op coordinators to help students integrate their co-op and academic education.
  • Engage in service opportunities outside the University to enhance the reputation of the co-op program and the University.

Requirements

  • A master's degree in higher education administration, engineering, business administration, or a related field is required by the appointment start date.
  • A minimum of five years of professional work experience is required.
  • Experience working with engineers in a Human Resources setting or in the career development, recruiting or counseling of engineering students is required.
  • Substantial use of technology tools is required.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills are required.
  • Experience working with a diverse staff/student populations, international students and a demonstrated commitment to achieving and maintaining diversity in the workplace is required.
