About the position

The Assistant Athletic Director and Sports Information Director position at Highland Community College is a dual role that encompasses a wide range of responsibilities aimed at supporting the intercollegiate athletic program. The Assistant Athletic Director will work closely with the Director of Athletics and the Director of Marketing to ensure the smooth operation of the athletic department. This includes assisting in the organization and management of athletic events, overseeing game day operations, and ensuring that all necessary preparations are made for home games and scrimmages. The role requires a proactive approach to game administration, including setting up and taking down equipment, coordinating with custodial staff to maintain cleanliness, and providing support to officials and teams during events. In addition to the administrative duties, the Sports Information Director will serve as the primary contact for all media-related activities associated with the athletic department. This includes the collection and reporting of statistics to the Kansas Jayhawk Conference and the NJCAA, as well as managing the department's social media presence and website. The SID will also be responsible for producing various promotional materials, such as newsletters, game programs, and recruitment brochures, to enhance the visibility of the athletic programs. The position requires strong communication skills, both written and verbal, to effectively engage with media personnel, coaches, and the community. The successful candidate will be expected to supervise student workers and game administration staff, ensuring that all operations run smoothly during athletic events. This includes recruiting, training, and scheduling staff for game day functions, as well as managing the distribution of sports information scholarships. The role demands a high level of organization, attention to detail, and the ability to work under pressure while maintaining a positive attitude towards students and staff.

Responsibilities

  • Assist the Director of Athletics and Director of Marketing in organizing and operating the intercollegiate athletic program.
  • Be available to assist at all HCC home games and select road contests.
  • Responsible for game administration at all HCC home games and scrimmages, including setup and takedown of equipment.
  • Coordinate with custodians to ensure cleanliness and readiness of facilities for contests.
  • Escort officials to their dressing room and provide refreshments during halftime.
  • Assist in stocking and cleaning concessions throughout the year.
  • Maintain office hours in Allen Field House to assist with other duties as assigned.
  • Ensure accurate collection and reporting of all HCC athletic statistics to the KJCCC and NJCAA.
  • Work with the Marketing Department for information release regarding HCC content and promotional materials.
  • Manage HCC Athletic Department social media accounts and website content.
  • Recruit, train, and schedule workers for game day press box and scores table functions.
  • Prepare and disseminate news releases for all athletic activities and events.
  • Organize and supervise photo sessions for all sports teams.
  • Travel to away games to cover sports information when applicable.
  • Develop and maintain relationships with local media and organize press conferences.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree required; Master's preferred.
  • Good computer skills required.
  • Experience with common in-game statistics programs.
  • Experience with the collection and dissemination of common athletic statistics.
  • Experience with production of video board content and advertisements.
  • Experience with website production and current social media platforms.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills with accurate punctuation and grammar.
  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret business periodicals and technical procedures.
  • Ability to write speeches and articles for publication.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in athletic administration or sports information roles.
  • Familiarity with the Kansas Jayhawk Conference and NJCAA regulations.
  • Knowledge of digital photography and multimedia production.
