About the position

The Assistant Athletic Director, Financial Operations will play a pivotal role in the management of business operations within the Department of Athletics at the University of New Hampshire. Reporting directly to the Deputy Director of Athletics, this position is essential for ensuring compliance with various policies set forth by USNH, UNH, NCAA, and conference regulations, particularly in relation to external revenue generation, youth summer camps, and overall departmental fiscal activities. The individual in this role will be responsible for supporting the CFO Office by assisting with financial reporting, conducting internal and external audits, and managing specific financial activities pertinent to the department. This position requires a strong understanding of budget management and financial principles, as well as the ability to analyze financial data effectively. The Assistant Athletic Director will be involved in the oversight of administrative and backend financial support for the external relations team, which includes tasks such as monthly credit card reconciliation, standard and ad hoc reporting, and assisting with accounts payable and receivable. The role also involves coordinating the annual budgeting process in collaboration with Finance and all Athletics units, ensuring that the department adheres to financial targets established by the Director of Athletics and CFO. In addition to managing financial operations, the Assistant Athletic Director will act as the primary liaison between the CFO financial team and Athletics, facilitating communication and collaboration to enhance revenue-generating initiatives. The position also entails managing unit-specific financial operations, including FOAPAL documentation, procurement questions, and NCAA travel processes. The successful candidate will oversee the filing of the annual NCAA audit and will be responsible for collecting and managing department employment contracts, ensuring compliance with bonus payments and contract fulfillment. This role is critical for the financial health and operational efficiency of the Athletics Department, and the individual will be expected to take on additional projects and responsibilities as assigned.

Responsibilities

  • Provide oversight of administrative and backend financial support for the external relations team to generate revenue.
  • Coordinate, manage, monitor, and participate in the annual budgeting process with Finance and all Athletics units.
  • Act as primary contact for budget-related issues, working with Athletics and Finance to address and resolve overspending and shortfalls.
  • Manage all unit-specific financial and business operational aspects, including FOAPAL documentation and NCAA travel processes.
  • Provide reporting, reconciliation, and financial administration for major department endeavors, including youth summer camps and ticket office operations.
  • Collect, organize, and manage all department employment contracts, including bonus payments and contract fulfillment.
  • Oversee, manage, and coordinate the filing of the annual NCAA audit, acting as the point person for data collection and consolidation.
  • Take on projects and ad hoc requests regarding the fiscal and operational administrative aspects of the Department of Athletics.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in a relevant field.
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in a financial role, preferably in collegiate athletics.
  • Knowledge of budget management, financial and managerial accounting principles, and financial analysis.
  • Intermediate Excel skills, including the use of Pivot tables and data queries.
  • Ability to manage and prioritize multiple complex projects simultaneously.
  • Aptitude for learning and thriving in a team setting.
  • Ability to work on-campus in New Hampshire.

Nice-to-haves

  • Advanced degree in Business Administration or Sports Management preferred.
  • Five or more years working in an intercollegiate athletics finance role.
  • Experience in NCAA Division I athletics.
